READING CRITICALLY
TITLE DESCRIPTION
Developing Critical Thinking Skills Develops vocabulary, comprehension, text description, and puzzle-solving activities. Student reads short passages and answers questions based on the reading. Especially good for pre-transfer levels.

Develops basic critical thinking skills in a graphics-intensive format. Students answer questions based on given explanations. Uses motivational statements to encourage users.

Reading Critically –
Non-fiction

Students read a passage and answer questions on vocabulary and comprehension. Student writes one-sentence answers and compares them with suggested answers. Two levels.
Reading and Reasoning Develops critical reading skills with reading comprehension exercises that help students recognize the numerous fallacies that they will encounter in their daily reading.
Survivors Testimonials of the Holocaust. Multimedia format.
READING COMPREHENSION
Inspiration Visual diagramming program that allows users to organize ideas in outline form using concept maps. Good for analyzing relationship between ideas in reading, improving comprehension and critical reading ability.

Inspiration Tutorial:
PowerPoint presentation

Introduces viewers to basic uses and functions of Inspiration software.
Jamestown Program focuses on Reading and Comprehension skills. Can be used for student placement. Tests in the program identify where students need more instruction.

Program designed to help students improve speed and accuracy in reading. Includes wide range of readings so students can practice strategies for: Skimming, Making inferences, recognizing main ideas, and Identifying supporting details. Several levels of difficulty to choose from.
SkillsBank 96 Develops reading comprehension in a graphics-intensive format.

Ten Steps to Improving College Reading Skills

Software supplement to textbook. Provides additional practice mastery tests for each of the 10 skills studied in the textbook. Intermediate Level.
Ten Steps to Advancing College Reading Skills Software supplement to textbook. Presents additional practice mastery tests for each of the 10 skills studied in the textbook. Students are able to hear the pronunciation of a word. Advanced Level.

Weaver: Comprehension
and Vocabulary

Teaches how to understand and remember what is read. Provides practice lessons that use a variety of approaches to ensure mastery of vocabulary words and comprehension skills.

SPEED READING
Ultimate Speed Reader Improves user’s reading rate through exercises and games. Includes comprehension tests.
STUDENT SUCCESS

Higher Scores on SAT, ACT, PSAT

Develops knowledge, skills, and test-wiseness applicable in many different testing situations. Provides specific training for taking these three tests.
Learning Styles Inventory Assesses individual students’ or whole class’s preferred learning and study styles (9 categories). Recommends optimum teaching strategies to play to that student’s or class’s strengths. Shows results in graph format.
Study Behavior Inventory Program asks students questions about their study time habits and attitudes. Report based on the student’s responses illustrates areas student can improve in.
Skillsbank5 Reviews core basic skills in a variety of subjects including: Reading; Language Development; Math and Algebra; Writing; Science, and Informational Skills such as using reference books. Graphics-intensive format. Pretests help determine if student needs more study in that subject.
