Breaking the Accent Barrier Helps students overcome accent barriers that keep them from being heard, understood, and respected. Teaches students to improve quality and expressiveness of the voice, adopt intonation and rhythm patterns of American speech, and control muscles of the mouth and tongue that that are needed to “sound American.”

Chapter 1-16
Illustrates the different intonations in spoken English. After she reads short articles, the presenter reviews the sounds found in the words of the article read. Students are asked to practice the sounds along with the host. Tongue and mouth placement when pronouncing are reviewed. Sound Focus section requires students to identify and circle the sound being reviewed.
