1989

Book. Focuses on practical methods for achieving personal and academic success in college. Concentrates on five skills areas: Managing Time and Environment, Reading Textbooks, Taking Class Notes, Using Information Resources, and Preparing for and Taking Examinations. Each chapter features two or more Skill Builder exercises that give readers an opportunity to practice some of the study strategies and techniques described.

Book. Offers readers several methods to improve study skills. Topics covered: listening and taking notes, vocabulary improvement, preparing for tests, organizing time, and improving memory. Plenty of exercises provided for readers to apply what they’ve learned.

Confident Student, The

Book. Through self-knowledge, confidence builders, critical thinking exercises, and computer applications, provides readers the skills and strategies needed to guide them toward completing their academic goals. End-of-chapter activities test reader’s comprehension. Topics covered: learning styles, goal setting, time management, health, test preparation, organization, memory techniques, and critical thinking strategies.

Improving Reading Skills

Book. Helps students improve on skills required to meet the demands of college work. Features thirty-eight readings drawn from books, magazines and newspapers. Students learn reading and study skills as they read real-life material. Readings of varying lengths and difficulty have been chosen for their high interest level, diverse writing styles, and timely coverage of current issues. Involves readers with vocabulary through the “Word Origins” sections.
Practicing College Study Skills  Book. Offers lessons and hands-on activities in note taking, test taking, reading, and critical thinking strategies. Lessons in time management, memory techniques, learning styles, goal setting, and researching are followed by easy exercises that test comprehension of the material. Section on the writing process presents steps readers can follow when writing.

Reading Line Program

Focus is placed on how to interpret what student’s have read, how to respond to it and how to formulate questions and find answers to them. A section on note-taking and test-taking is included.

Reading Skills Handbook

Book. Teaches basic reading skills required for college success. Handbook section discusses vocabulary, comprehension, interpretation and evaluation, and basic study skills. Mini-anthology of twenty-four reading selections and practice exercises helps reinforce the handbook’s instruction.

Activities require decisions from readers. For instance, in the main idea exercises, students identify not only the Main Idea, but the statement that is too broad and the statement that is too narrow. In the vocabulary in context exercises readers learn to identify the precise meanings of words by identifying not only words that have the same meaning, but also words that have almost the same meaning and the opposite meaning.
